Woodburners and solid fuel stoves

A woodburner or solid fuel stove can really make a house feel like home, and with rising electricity and gas prices makes a great money-saving addition to your standard heating system. With modern clean-burn stoves being upwards of 80% efficient and very low in particle emission they also make sense from an environmental point of view. TC Plumbing and Heating can compete all aspects of stove installation, even if you don’t have a brick chimney or fireplace in your house.

We supply the highest quality components such as flexible metal chimney liners with 30 year warranties, and all components are Hetas-approved for use with solid fuel.

For installations where there is no chimney we can supply and fit twin-wall flue systems in either a shiny stainless or matte black finish.

Below are some examples of previous solid fuel installations we have carried out (click for larger images):

The customer had an existing gas fire with brick and stone surround. The gas supply was capped-off, the surround removed and the existing throat-forming lintel was cut to raise the height and width of the fireplace opening. The walls were then plastered and a new slate hearth was fitted and Firefox 5 stove installed.

An example of tie-bars being used to steady a twin wall flue where it needed to pass above the ridge line.

A freestanding Contura stove with soapstone cladding standing on a toughened glass hearth. This installation used a twin-wall flue system passing through 2 storeys in an amazing oak-framed house.

An interesting stove installation in a converted chapel where the stone chimney had been taken down. This required a flexible liner for the first metre from the stove, changing to a twin-wall flue system in powdercoated black via a firechest plate. Lovely semi-circular Carron stove in black enamel finish fits the fireplace perfectly.

Fireplace openings in older properties may well have been blocked up to suit a gas or electric fire. These can fairly easily be opened back up to the original size to suit a woodburner.

An example of a boiler stove installation feeding into a thermal store with gas boiler and electric immersion heater backups. This particular installation provided all of the household’s hot water and heating needs in winter via the stove, and the immersion heaters took care of the hot water in summer via the PV solar panels installed on the roof.

An example of an interesting Australian cooker stove installation using a twin-wall stainless flue system. The customer was happily cooking his food the old fashioned way! This is a good example of how a twin-wall flue system looks exiting the building at 45 degrees and then carrying on up over the roofline. This type of system allows you to install a stove where you don't have a masonry chimney available.

The original hearth for this beautiful 1960's Petit Godin stove was too small and so was extended by casting some new concrete and then re-tiling the whole top and sides.

This customer had a gas fire and wanted to replace it with a wood burner. We excavated the original raised hearth then built the constructional hearth back up, re-tiled, boarded and plastered the opening, and then tiled the hearth and back.
